Subak Updates
Subak’s Data Catalogue launches 23rd May - Register now
Subak’s Data Cooperative makes climate data searchable, trusted and connected to accelerate climate impact. The Data Cooperative includes three parts - a community of data users and producers, a Catalogue of climate data, and training to make the best of both.
Launching publicly in May, our Data Catalogue signposts and curates climate data, from open to proprietary. It allows any individual or organisation- large or small, for-profit or not-for-profit- to map the data they have available, understand what climate data is already out there, and start to work with this data.
Join us at 2pm BST on May 23rd as we publicly launch our Data Catalogue, and in the meantime keep an eye on our blog for more information.
Subak Australia announces 2022 Accelerator Cohort & Fellows
Joining our Australia hub for the Accelerator programme are four inspiring startups tackling various climate challenges, from food system security, to the environmental footprints of supermarket products, to carbon sequestration through kelp.
Keep an eye on the Subak Australia LinkedIn to meet the latest cohort of Fellows joining our Australia node 👋

Community Updates
Celebrating Earth Day (every day) 🌍
Friday 22nd April was Earth Day, themed this year around ‘Investing in our Planet’. At Subak, we treat every day as Earth Day, as our community of organisations and individuals shares a common goal: to reverse climate change. Whilst the specific focus area of each Subak community member varies, a commitment to collaborative climate action - and investing in our planet - unites us all.
We collected responses from our community about what this year’s Earth Day theme means to them and their organisation in our recent blog.
TransitionZero launch Coal to Clean Carbon Price Index on 10th May
TransitionZero’s upcoming webinar will introduce their newly launched Coal to Clean Carbon Price Index (C3PI), which shows the economic case for switching from coal to clean electricity, and brings carbon pricing experts together to discuss what this means for both policymakers and financers. Sign up for the webinar here.

Build Trust and Collaboration Around Data
We were proud to contribute to the ‘Unlocking Net Zero’ whitepaper from the Bright Initiative, which was established by Bright Data to drive positive change in the world using publicly available online data. The paper argues that the full potential of data in the climate fight will only be unlocked if world governments, civil society, and businesses work together. Our CEO Amali de Alwis was quoted:
“We need to drastically transform our approach to data management towards an intrinsically collaborative approach, with an unrelenting North Star of climate action.”
Global greenhouse gas emissions must peak before 2025, according to the latest IPCC report
The IPCC’s latest climate report on mitigation unequivocally states that limiting warming to around 1.5°C (2.7°F) requires global greenhouse gas emissions to peak before 2025.
“Having the right policies, infrastructure and technology in place to enable changes to our lifestyles and behaviour can result in a 40-70% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.”
With this report, the message for the global electricity transition is clear: we are running out of time to phase out coal, and wind and solar play a crucial role in an energy system that avoids catastrophic global climate change. Check out commentary by Ember for more detail.
