Neglected Climate Areas: A High-Level Analysis. When you are a small organisation with limited resources, tackling a climate crisis that is global, complex and urgent, where should you put your focus? This is a key question for Subak in assessing which organisations have the most significant potential for contribution to the global climate effort. In this article, our own Justine White provides an an early stage window into our emerging thinking and high-level analysis to identify neglected climate areas.

Tackling Australia's Coal Mine Methane Under the Safeguard Mechanism is Cost Effective and High Reward. Ember's methane team was recognised as a key source in an Australian governmental inquiry. They showed that Australia’s coal mines could almost halve methane emissions by using just 1% of annual profits. It’s the biggest climate debate in the country, and the Ember team put coal mine methane right in the mix.
Can ‘green’ steel halt EU deindustrialisation? Europe has high hopes of global leadership in ‘green’ steel. New analysis from Transition Zero highlights the economic and climate benefits this could deliver, but also the risks and challenges that will need to be managed.
In the News
UK’s first new coal mine in decades will endanger emissions pledge, finds Ember. Ember (Cohort 0 Member) recently published an analysis finding that the Whitehaven coal mine approval jeopardises UK’s international commitments. Methane emissions of the Cumbria coal mine could be 15 times greater than estimated by the developer. The analysis was featured in The Times.
The UK’s Four-Day Week Pilot: Autonomy (Cohort 1 Member) recently published full findings of the world’s largest four-day working week trial to date, comprising 61 companies and around 2,900 workers, that took place in the UK from June to December 2022. An incredible global reception resulted in media coverage spanning The Guardian, FT, Sky News, Wall Street Journal, BBC. In response, Autonomy has just launched the 4-Day Week National Rollout Programme to bring shorter working hours to hundreds more organisations.
